KENNEDY SOUND COMPLETES AUDIO POST
FOR PBS NEW SEASON PREVIEW

Washington, D.C.- Sound designer Kennedy Wright has just completed work on a major promotional effort for PBS, the Winter/Spring 2001 New Season Preview Reel. The half-hour show, which highlights programs from the upcoming PBS season, was mixed at kennedy sound, a full-service mobile audio post-production studio.

PBS associate creative director Jeffrey Hughes tapped kennedy sound for the project based on years of prior experience working with sound designer Wright. "We were working on a pretty condensed production schedule, and Kennedy's knowledge of the project and his ability to anticipate our needs were key to meeting that deadline," according to Hughes.

The PBS team took advantage of the flexibility afforded by a mobile audio studio, and had kennedy sound set up shop at D.C.'s Interface Media Group, where the video was edited and composited. "I set up my studio in a conference room at Interface," explains Wright, "and was ready to roll in just a few hours. Being on site at Interface allowed the producers to direct video, graphics and audio sessions all at the same time. I began working on the show before it was even out of offline!"

As the show began to take shape and evolve, incremental updates were provided to Wright on Beta SP worktapes on a daily basis. "There was a lot of reconforming the audio as little timing changes were introduced by the complex graphic transitions," says Wright. "The basic tracks were delivered from the Avid via OMF files on Jaz discs, and on this foundation I built a busy, layered effects track. I worked on the transitions between sections last, as this was where timings changed the most during graphics compositing."

"The soundtrack for this show is a lot of fun," continues Wright. "There are lush backgrounds and effects for nature shows, intense impacts and abstract sounds for dramatic shows, and no shortage of humor along the way. Really my favorite kind of mix!"

Kennedy sound opened for business in the fall of 2000. When not working on site, the Pro Tools-based studio operates from its home base in Washington, D.C.

Original music for the show was composed by Michael Whalen Music.
